How to Recognize the Symptoms of Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins are a disease with symptoms that are easily recognizable compared to many other illnesses. Although people often ignore these signs and symptoms until the last minute, you should not do the same. If you experience the signs and symptoms listed below, be sure to see a cardiovascular surgeon for examination. If you live in Istanbul or have the opportunity to come, your examination will be performed free of charge by Dr. Oğuz Uğur.

Pain / Aching in the Legs

As we have discussed in our previous topics, varicose disease is divided into 3 groups: capillary, medium, and large varicose veins, and their signs and symptoms may vary. Those with capillary vein problems only experience aching, which is not very serious. However, it is recommended to undergo treatment to avoid dealing with a bad appearance. Fatigue and pain in the legs are among the most important signs of venous dilation, but leg pain alone is not sufficient for diagnosis. Similarly, cramping that occurs in the evenings is important for reaching a conclusion.

Abnormal Appearance of Veins

The expansion of the veins in the deep veins, which is constantly progressing, can easily be seen through the skin after a certain point. To understand this, you need to stand for about 10-15 minutes, especially. After this process, when you look at your legs, you can see that the veins protrude from the skin. It is shown in the image below.

Changes in Skin Color

When you reach this point, the danger signals have increased. Pain, cramps, swelling, etc. can be tolerated to a certain extent. However, the hardening of the legs and changes in skin color indicate that bleeding may occur at any moment. Bleeding caused by vein rupture is sometimes difficult to stop and requires tampon application. Bleeding can lead to non-healing wounds on the legs, known as varicose ulcers.

Are You Experiencing These Complaints?

Many varicose vein patients actually come to the doctor with a correct suspicion. Especially, combining pain, cramps, and itching is enough to understand that it is a vein dilation disease. Or, there will be no other explanation for veins protruding outside the skin. If you are experiencing these complaints, without wasting much time, you should definitely consult a cardiovascular surgeon before the disease progresses.
